Methodology · how this register was built

Counted on the ground.

This register is the work of more than four years. Sites were identified through three concurrent processes: field verification by Mosul Eye and its network of correspondents inside the city; satellite imagery analysis (Sentinel-2 and high-resolution commercial); and cross-reference with UNESCO's Revive the Spirit of Mosul programme, Iraqi State Board of Antiquities reports, and the Mosul municipality's own damage assessments.

Each entry is recorded with: name (English transliteration and the original Arabic), type, period, condition (destroyed or severely damaged), approximate date of destruction, and source. Coordinates are recorded to 4 decimal places where field verification was possible.

The register is not exhaustive. Of the 91 named sites, this page shows 23 widely-documented losses. The full register is maintained as a data table; please contact us for citation use.
