After the fall of Mosul to ISIS in June 2014, Larus seagulls left the city. Now they are back enjoying a peaceful Mosul. The birds often gather in large numbers on Mosul Lake, particularly in winter.

When I stayed in 1979 for (only) one night in Mossul (in an hotel near the railway station) I could not image what would happen to this great city many years afterwards. I wish the best for this city and all its inhabitants. May diversity, freedom and prosperity last for ever.
